If you love animals and want your trip to mean something, this is one of the most special things you can do in Palomino. The Dog Shelter Palomino rescues and cares for dogs in need — and you can support their work simply by joining a tour, visiting their café or making a donation during your stay. I'm Paola, and this is a cause close to our hearts at Casa Aloha.

A cause worth supporting
On Colombia's Caribbean coast, sadly, animal abuse and abandonment are common. The team at Dog Shelter Palomino does vital work: they rescue dogs found in poor conditions, nurse them back to health, and run sterilization campaigns to humanely control the animal population in the area.
Veterinary treatment to recover a dog in bad shape is expensive, so every visit, tour and donation directly helps cover the care these animals need
.
The dogs — and their happy endings
Here's the beautiful part: many of the dogs rescued here have found loving homes not just across Colombia — in Bogotá, Medellín and beyond — but internationally, with adopted pups now living in England and Switzerland.
If you fall in love with one of them during your visit, adoption is possible. And even if you can't adopt, spending time with them makes a real difference.
How you can help during your stay
There are three easy ways to support the shelter while you're in Palomino:
Join a tour (details below) — the most fun way to help.
Visit their café — enjoy something and support the cause.
Make a donation — every contribution goes toward veterinary care.
The tours — hike, tube and walk with rescue dogs
The shelter runs daily tours, and there are two options:
Mountain hike + river tubing — COP $200,000. A hike up into the mountains to visit the viewpoints, followed by tubing down the river all the way to the sea, all this with the dogs. A full adventure with a purpose.
Walk with the dogs — COP $70,000 (2 hours). A walk down to the river and the beach with the rescue dogs, where you can play and even swim with them. Perfect if you want a shorter, joyful experience and some quality time with the pups.
Both tours directly support the shelter's rescue and veterinary work.
